Umrigar will speak at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Hilton.

Published earlier this year, “The World We Found” explores religious, cultural and lifestyle differences in present-day India and the United States. It’s about a group of friends from college whose divergent lives are brought together by misfortune.
Umrigar is an English professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born in Mumbai and immigrated to the United States at age 21. She has written five other books, including “The Space Between Us,” “Bombay Times,” “First Darling of the Morning,” “If Today Be Sweet” and “The Weight of Heaven.”

Fort Collins Reads is a volunteer committee that promotes reading and the discussion it prompts. Each year, the committee uses public input to select a book, then organizes events around its themes and hosts the author’s visit to Fort Collins. This year marks the 10th Fort Collins Reads event. Previous selections included “March” by Geraldine Brooks; “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein; and “The Tortilla Curtain” by T.C. Boyle.

Greetings and Salutations from the Cove!

What does a silly marmot know about the weather anyway? Here at the Cove it is always Spring, always warm and sunny. Yeah, yeah, that’s the ticket. Can’t you just feel the warm ocean breeze? Aaaahhhh! Don’t look out the window, that’s not snow, that’s . . .just the glare from the sun on the sea – yeah, yeah, that’s the ticket.

So, come on down and help us celebrate the season of the book (a season that lasts 365 days a year). We have some really cool stuff happening this month – I mean REALLY HOT – I mean they are kwel not a temperature reference – and we hope to see you all.

As always, thank you for your continued support and patronage,

Charles and the crew of the Cove

Super Book Weekend:

Attention all Super Bowl Widows and Widowers – free books!

Stop by Sunday the 5th of February – there is something else going on that day – I just can’t remember what it is, some field hockey event or something – anyway, any purchase over 10 dollars gets you a choice of books from our Advanced Reader Library. These are proofs sent to us by the publishers to give us a heads up about upcoming titles. The staff loves them but we get so many that we can’t keep up with them so we are offering them to you die-hards out there. There are great books from the well known to the soon to be well known. Offer good while supplies last.

FREE LOTTO TICKETS:

There is this marvelous tradition in the Chinese culture in which, as part of the New year’s celebrations, they give away money in red envelopes for good luck. What an awesome idea, so, we are welcoming in the year of the Dragon by giving money away! Spend 10 dollars with us in either the bookstore or coffee shop and get a red envelope containing your fortune and a lotto ticket that could give you a fortune. Now the catch is that we have never been known for our promptness and we really should have had this note out a week ago, and considering the snow and lateness, we are giving away our luck on the weekend of the 11th and 12th instead.

Local Author Signing

Pastor Steve Shank, author of Schizophrenic God? Finding Reality, in Conflict, Confusion and Contradiction, will be at the Cove on Saturday, February 4th from 11- 1 pm. He will be signing copies of his book and visiting with those interested in his book.

Coffee Chat

State Representative John Kefalas will be hosting a community chat at the Cove on February 18th from 9:30 to 11. Stop by and grab a cup coffee and chat with John about upcoming legislative issues.

Local Author Signing

David Barkley, author of The Pursuit, will be at the Cove on February 18th from 11-1pm signing his books and chatting with fans. The Pursuit is a Christian fiction parable tale focusing on stories of the Old Testament.

Don’t Forget that Story Time is held at the Cove every Monday at 10:15 am. Mondays are also always FREE BAGEL MONDAY so grab a coffee and a free bagel before you settle in for stories.

We Love Phineas and Ferb!

The Cove is very excited to announce that Greg Guler, the lead character designer on “Phineas and Ferb” as well as many other Disney Television series such as “Gargoyles”, “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command”, “Lilo and Stitch: the Series”, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse”, will be at the Cove on Saturday, February 25 from 11 to 12:30 signing the Walter Foster book “Learn to Draw Phineas and Ferb”. He will be making a presentation on his life as an artist and may even be hosting a mini-workshop on how to draw Phineas!

Thanks, Carol!

We would like to thank Carol Berg, author of the Collegia Magica series, for stopping by last month to host a chat and book signing for her latest book, The Daemon Prism. It is always a great experience and Carol is a awesome presenter.

A little further down the Road:

Guy Henry, author of Hatchett, The Wannabe Sled Dog and Eowyn and Linus On The Iditarod Trail will be hosting a book signing on March 4th (start date of this year’s Iditarod) from 11-1pm. Guy will have his sled dogs with him and will be available to chat about his experiences with the race.

Teresa Funke, author of the awesome kid’s series, Home-Front Heroes Series, will be at the Cove on March 8thfrom 5:30 to 7pm signing her newest release, Wave Me Good-bye. Teresa will be reading selections from her book as well as talking about her many educational programs. This will be a great presentation to bring your elementary aged kids with you.

Sandra Dallas is in the Wings! We are settling in on a date to bring back one of our favorite authors, Sandra Dallas – most likely in the April time frame again. Stay Tuned for more details.

Gift Card Amnesty

Have a gift card you know you are never going to use? Don’t forget about our gift card amnesty program. We will trade you one you won’t use for one you will. Also our amnesty program is a great idea to use up those old cards and give away our cards as gifts; recycling and being generous – how cool is that?

Using Credits to buy gift cards:

We will exchange credit slip dollars for gift cards at the same rate as new books – 40%. So that means you can buy 10 dollar gift cards for 6 dollars cash and 4 dollars credit. Give the gift of reading and save money; you gotta like that.

Cool calendars from Cool non-profits

As the new year ramps up, get organized with a local, non-profit calendar. We have calendars from the Larimer Humane Society, Rocky Mountain Rapture Program and Farmer’s Market.

Local Authors and Artists

Just inside the door is a wall of books by local authors. Consider giving the gift of a unique local book as a special gift for that big reader on your list. Also, in our coffee shop and bookstore are small artworks from local artists that are a great price for the holiday as well.
